Recruiting Report: Max Sonne (2018)
Max Sonne is a big and agile athlete from Watertown, South Dakota who is offered in football and he plays many sports year round.
The 6-foot-4, 205 pound Sonne is a big on the court, he plays tight end and linebacker in football, and he also plays tennis. When he wasn’t doing those things he played 17u basketball with the South Dakota Heat.
“This summer I grew more as a leader and got better at scoring down at the low block and worked on getting my jumper down,” Sonne told PHD. “And the experience I will take away is just competing against the high competition at the AAU level.”
The South Dakota Heat played 25 games at the 17u level winning 14 of their games. It was a good season for the Heat and it was a chance for Max to learn what he needs to do better going forward.
“I’m trying to improve on scoring with my back to basket in the low post and also working on my outside shot,” Sonne said.
Watertown didn’t have the record they wanted during Sonne’s junior year but they were better than many outsiders expected. Ask Brandon Valley and Brookings who both took Ls to the Arrows. The team is set up for a nice 17-18.
“We have six returning guys from last year’s team and we have a bunch of juniors who will contribute greatly for our team this upcoming year,” Sonne said.
Max is a solid hooper but he has offers from the Northern Sun to play college football.
“I’m currently looking to play college football. I have offers from Northern State and University of Mary but I haven’t decided where I want to go.”
Once football is over Sonne has big goals for the returning six guys to this year’s team plus the other that will step forward at Watertown.
“For basketball my goals for my senior season is to get Watertown back to the state tournament and win the state championship,” Max said.
