Recruiting Report: Mark Williams (2020)
Virginia Beach native Mark Williams, a class of 2020 big man at Norfolk Academy, is coming off an outstanding summer. The 6’11 power forward was a standout on the AAU circuit with Team Loaded, and parlayed that success into a top 20 All-Star nod at Hoop Group Future All American 2017.

“I’m a post defender. Can knock down the trail 3. Can get past defenders in the post easily,” said Williams, who mentioned that he’s been playing basketball since the age of 5. “My passing in the post is underrated. I can find the open shooter.”
Since he was young Williams has always been the tallest person on the court. His older sister, Elizabeth Williams, who is in her third WNBA season with Atlanta, played at Duke. She is always telling him to stay humble, and stay hungry. Williams has taken her advice seriously, and continues to work on his overall game.
“The most improved parts of my game have to be shooting more, and my defense,” Williams, who gets all A’s and B’s, explained. “I need to work on getting stronger for sure. Getting in the weight room. Also getting quicker. Being able to guard guards.”
Williams has 7 offers to date; from Virginia Tech, VCU, Oklahoma State, Virginia, Clemson, James Madison, and Old Dominion. He says he hasn’t taken any visits yet, but is planning some in the future. Williams mentioned that he’s receiving good feedback on his play. What can he bring to a college program?
“Just that stretch four type player. And being able to play good defense.”
