Recruiting Report: Macauley Young (2019)
Macauley Young is a 6-foot-9 center from Shiloh Christian entering his junior year. Young is one of the top low post players in North Dakota.
Young spent his spring weekends competing with the ECI Prospects top 16u team and he learned a great deal about himself.
“I thought I had a good sophomore year and first half 16u,” Young said to PHD. “I loved playing for ECI – Luke. I got to play with a great group of guys against some strong teams. I worked and played hard.
“I had a couple summer camps with Shiloh where I felt I was in a really good groove. In June I had a lingering knee issue taken care of by Mayo Sports Medicine so I took July off to recover and am rehabbing my knee so that I will be stronger and better than ever in November and the 17u season.
“My favorite part of the AAU season was probably SPTS #2 in Nebraska. I feel like I had a really good weekend down there.”
Young is a throwback low post center with size, strength, and a deep post touch. He wants to get even stronger.
“I’m focused on getting stronger and finishing through contact. Also, just working on my shot because you can never put too much work into your shot.”
Macauley and Shiloh Christian have big expectations for this 2017-18 season. Bartholomew Ogbu and Jonas Mitzel are the seniors-to-be leading the way.
“We’ve got a solid team this year,” Young said. “We have played together for years and have good chemistry. I think it’s going to come down to who prepares and wants to win the most. The regular season game I am most looking forward to is Stanley.”
As one of the top low post players in the state Young is hearing from several programs.
“I’ve been hearing from University of Mary, Minot State, Jamestown, Augustana, and Lake Region State,” Young said.
ECI alumni have been a big influence on Macauley.
“Lucas Mayer has influenced my game because I’ve watched him play and used some of the stuff he does,” Young explained. “Also Luke Moorman as a former player, coach and all around good person.
“My favorite hoopers are LeBron James because he is so versatile and can do it all. Also Karl Anthony Towns because I feel like my game is very similar to his.”
