With still two high school seasons and one grassroots offseason left to be recruited, 6-foot-4 guard Landon Brenchley has plenty of time for it all to materialize.
But it’s not too early to start thinking about what may become of his recruitment.
The Ridgeline rising-junior already has some Division I interest to speak of, and mentioned two schools in particular that have been after him the most.
“I’ve talked to Utah State, Utah Valley, Portland State and Weber State. It’s phone calls, text messages and I’ve gotten a couple letters,” said Brenchley.
“I’d say probably Weber State and Portland State are more aggressive about it right now. They’ll be watching me during the high school season, and then hopefully I can get some unofficial visits planned to some schools later on.
A solid scorer, one of Utah’s best, Brenchley detailed what it is about his style of play that makes the state’s 24th-ranked 2019.
“I like to shoot, I’m more of a 3-point shooter than anything. And even though I’m definitely more of a scoring guard, I like to pass and get everyone involved, too,” he said.
“I can shoot and I can get to the hole, but one thing I’ve really been working on is my pull-up jumper, and being able to score from all three levels.”
This past spring and summer for his 16U season, Brenchley played with Utah Hard Knox and Exum Elite.
“I was scoring well, and we had a lot of coaches at our games, so that was good,” he said. “Playing against the competition and the pressure was good, and just the speed of the game helped me a lot.”
Now, as he heads into his junior season with the Riverhawks, he’s hoping to take his experience from starting as a sophomore and lead the team to another state title.
This time, without older brother and current Utah Utes freshman Jaxon Brenchley.
“I averaged like nine points last year, and it was basically me and seven seniors. So, I’m pretty much the only guy returning, but I’m excited for that, it should be good,” said Brenchley.
“Personally, I hope to average 20 points or more. And, we won state last year, so I’m wanting to do that again.”
