Recruiting Report: Lamontay Daughtery (2020)
Duquoin 2020 small forward Lamontay Daughtery is the #3 overall prospect in the rising sophomore class in the state of Illinois. This wing has a great frame at 6’5” with length and a ton of upside. He has always flashed the potential, but never fully put a complete game together. We came away from his play at the Jayhawk Finale in late July impressed with his improved motor and consistency. Seemed much more engaged than we had seen in the past. His athleticism shined through. He handles it tremendously well in the open floor and has the ability to grab defensive rebounds, go end to end, and finish at the cup. Also mixes in some strong attacks off the bounce and especially likes to use the baseline. Rebounded at a nice clip snatching them in traffic. High-major potential.
How did July go with Brad Beal Elite 15U?
“We have been playing good. We played more as a team at the end of July and started to win more games. I am playing fine, but could be doing better. I could shoot the ball better and play more D.”
What areas does he think he excelled the most during the live periods?
“Rebounding the ball and altering shots. Getting the ball to my teammates when needed.”
It seemed like he played with a much higher motor that we had seen in the past. His coaches have talked to him about that and playing more free.
“They told me to play my game and have a green light. Do what you do best and that is what I have been trying to do.”
How did it go with DuQuoin in June?
“We played pretty good. I think our record was better this summer. We have more athletic and taller players this upcoming season. I am hoping we have a better season this year.”
When his game is rolling what does he do best?
“I would say scoring. I can get to the basket whenever I want.”
There were multiple high major programs tracking Daughtery and his Brad Beal Elite 15U squad in July. Expect that to be where his recruitment heads if he continues his current trajectory. SIU is a program that has shown early interest and extended an offer.
