Recruiting Report: Josiah Carmichael (2019)
After receiving his first Division I offer, and seeing some interest trickle in from other programs, Alexandria wing Josiah Carmichael will go into his junior season beaming with confidence.
He spent his 16U offseason with Team Speights and all that exposure, coupled with his strong play, paid off.
“I received my first offer from University of Incarnate Word (TX) In June. And I’ve been to some camps; the University of Houston and Rice camps, and I got a lot of good looks there.”
After spending the final weekend of July in Las Vegas with his grassroots team — the final live period of the summer — Carmichael says his recruitment continued to grow.
“We just got back from Vegas, and I averaged 11 points there,” he said. “And I got a lot of good looks there too, and colleges are contacting my coach about me.”
Carmichael received that first offer from Incarnate Word, a D1 in San Antonio, on June 16th, and says it’s a good feeling to see he and his peers succeeding.
“When I got that first offer, it was exciting because I really worked hard. And a lot of the guys I was playing with and who I grew up with were starting to get offers too. So I was happy to see us all doing well,” said Carmichael.
“In the next six months I hope to just pick up some more offers, to a school where I can fit in.”
A versatile 6’5 wing, Carmichael defined his skill-set to PHLA during a recent phone interview.
“The way I play most of the time is I’m very versatile, I’m not selfish at all. I play inside and out, but I’m probably best at my mid-range game, and I can put the ball on the floor and handle it. And sometimes I play two-guard, depending on who’s in the game,” he said.
“I’m most comfortable on the wing, and I think in college ball I’d be more of a wing, because of my size, about 6’5 and 180 pounds.”
Carmichael added: “I need to work on my ball-handling a lot. I know when I get to college everyone is going to be able to guard, and I’ll have to put the ball on the floor and not just pass-and-cut or catch-and-shoot.”
Last season, as a sophomore with the Trojans, Carmichael started. This year, he’ll provide some veteran leadership.
“I know next year I’ll have a big role for my team,” he said. “I’ll have to provide a lot of offense and help a lot.
