Recruiting Report: Jordan Whitford (2019)
As he heads into his junior season with Detroit King, 5-foot-11 guard Jordan Whitford has the confidence of knowing he’s already got some Division I interest.
He played well this summer with Michigan Playmakers 16U, and there were three colleges programs in particular which took note.
“It (recruitment) started this year, the first school that asked about me was Xavier (LA), I was talking to their coach. And then I was talking to Miami of Ohio, they were in Kentucky watching us, and their coach said they were interested. And U of Detroit Mercy was talking to my coach about me. And that’s all I know so far,” said Whitford.
“I’m hoping I get a lot more looks, like maybe from some mid-majors. I’m hoping that comes soon.”
A natural leader who takes pride in being a floor general, Whitford defined his current skill-set to PHMI during a recent phone interview.
“Mostly, I like being a good leader on the floor and running the offense. Ball-handling and passing are my strengths, scoring is getting better and I’m getting better at shooting,” said Whitford, who reflected on his offseason with Michigan Playmakers.
“This spring went good, we had a lot of guys that moved up, but I didn’t, so I had to do a lot of scoring,” he said. “And, I also had to be a leader, and it worked out for us, we did good.”
As a sophomore last season, Whitford started with the Crusaders, but was more of a role player. This season will be very different.
“This year is going to be a lot different, my coach will be looking for me to be our vocal leader now,” said Whitford. “So, I’ll have to lead the offense and have a much bigger role.”
