Recruiting Report: Jesus Vargas (2018)
Rockridge 2018 power forward Jesus Vargas is a prospect that flies under the radar, but has developmental upside. The 6’8” big man has size and mobility in the post. Defensively flashes his ability to swat shots inside and even contests perimeter jumpers. Raw offensive player, but a prospect that would be worth a look by D3 and NAIA programs to develop.
How was his junior season?
“This past year we did good. We went 25-2. We ended up losing in the regional championship game in a close double overtime game. I think I contributed a lot as a junior. We had two all-staters. With me in the mix we did great.”
Vargas spoke about his game and what he does well on the floor.
“I would describe my game as more of a defensive player. If the jump shot is not falling I can drive a little bit. I have the length on the defensive end which makes it a lot easier to be a shot blocking presence staying straight up.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“I have a lot of D3 schools and JUCO’s looking at me. Wisconsin Platteville, Lincoln College, and a couple more.”
Vargas played for the Illinois Irish on the grassroots circuit.
