Harrison Christensen may not draw as much attention as some of his teammates, but he’s been an invaluable member of the last two Fergus Falls basketball teams in large part due to his toughness and willingness to do a lot of the little things.
Christensen has one more year year as an Otter and that toughness will be on full display throughout the year. See Christensen didn’t spend the summer playing grassroots as he had during previous years. He did join teammate Nathan Rund and Comets Lewis for a tournament in Milwaukee in July. But in the fourth game with the team, he tore his medial patella femoral ligament. the senior-to-be was faced with a choice: get surgery, miss the football season (where he’s the starting quarterback of a team with state aspirations) and some of the basketball season, or partake in physical therapy, rehab, put up with some pain and play out what could be a banner senior year.
He made the decision seem pretty easy.
“I don’t want to miss anything in my senior year of sports,” Christensen said. “Physical therapy has been going good. Just trying to build up the knee and make it stronger. It’s going to be one of those things where there might be a little bit of pain and I’ll just have to deal with it. The brace helps. After a lot of physical activity it’ll be a little sore. It’ll be a nagging injury but it’s something I can put up with for my senior year.”
Christensen’s been a solid player for the Otters the last two seasons, particularly on the defensive end of the floor where he’s been an ace defender for a team that’s ranked as one of the best in the state the last two seasons. He’s a good perimeter shooter and provides a little bit of everything on the offensive end as a screener, ball-mover and secondary ball handler.
Christensen’s gotten some college looks for basketball and said he’ll likely make a choice between staying around the midwest and playing basketball or going to Arizona for school.
“I’ve had some of the MIAC schools talk to me,” Christensen said. “Concordia has talked to me a lot. Going up for a visit in the fall. We’ll see. I also have family in Arizona so I might go to school there and if I do, I won’t play college sports or anything. Hopefully I can get some more looks and have to make a choice there.”
