Recruiting Report: Evan Nichols (2018)
You can nearly always find some good prospects later in summer heading into their Senior year. Some take time to develop. Some just take time to be seen. However, when those players are post players, it is an even better find.
This was the case with 2018 post Evan Nichols. The 6’8 forward from Floyd Central (IN) was a name that was floated around in the Spring and as time went on more and more scouts and coaches were able to see him. Now, he has a long list of suitors and should be looking at having offers soon enough.
Nichols has been talking to teams like Franklin, Midway, Hope College, Rose-Hulman, IU-Kokomo, and Kentucky Wesleyan. He should be making some trips on some of their campuses for Elite Camps and visits this Fall. HIs interest in possibly majoring in Engineering or Manufacturing makes sense based on the current list of schools showing interest.
Evan’s drawn interest for his ability to be a tradition post player. He’s not going to stretch the floor out much but can get up and down the court well and when set, he’s pretty adept at scoring with either hand on the block. He needs a little more strength on the frame in college but he’s pretty set to go for most DIII and NAIA programs from Day One.
It wouldn’t be a shock either for Nichols to continue to draw more and more interest this winter as his Floyd Central (IN) team should be really good. They will compete with New Albany (IN) as the best team in that southern area of the state but with guys like Nichols, Luke Gohmann, Cobie Barnes, and others, this team should be one of the taller, more talented teams in the state.
