Recruiting Report: Domenick Bailey (2018)
In his first year at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes, Domenick Bailey showed that he can not only compete at a high level, but lead others and help make them better. He’s done more of the same on the summer circuit with Team Takeover Grey, and is seeing an uptick in recruitment as a result.
“I would describe my game as very aggressive, yet very efficient. I’m an attacking guard who can score it well from all three levels, and also gets his team mates involved. Defensively I like to be aggressive and apply pressure to the opposing ball handler. Overall on the court I just try not to be one dimensional and do whatever I can to help the team win,” said Bailey of his overall game. “One thing I do on the court that people may not notice at first is my leadership. On every team I’ve played for guys turn to me to lead, and it’s something that I take pride in. Something that people may overlook that shows up in that stat sheet is that I’m a great rebounder from the guard position.”
It’s hard to ignore Bailey’s ability on the court, but what makes him more impressive is how he carries himself while off the court. The well spoken young man carries a 3.94 GPA, and plans to take several AP classes as a senior.
“School for me is great, SSSAS really challenges me and is a great environment to learn new things.”
Right now, Bailey is being recruited all across the board, Division 1- Division 3. At the D3 level, he’s hearing from high academic schools such as M.I.T, Swarthmore, Johns Hopkins, NYU, CNU, and University of Chicago. Bailey has been offered by D2 Millersville University, and has heard from several other schools including Belmont Abbey. At the D1 level, he’s been receiving heavy interest from Air Force. VMI, and many Ivy League schools have also expressed interest. In the next week, Bailey expects to hear back from many of these schools as to where he stands recruitment wise.
“I can definitely say that most improved aspect of my game over the last 12 months is my jump shooting ability, specifically from 3pt range. Before then, I was primarily a guy that’d score off the bounce at the rim, but I’ve worked hard to expand my range which has made me much more difficult to guard,” Bailey explained. “As far as improving my game, just continuing to become a greater threat from 3 would be the next step in expanding what I can already do.”
It’s quite clear that Bailey will get an opportunity to play at the next level. Wherever he goes, he finds multiple ways to contribute. He plans to do more of the same in college.
“I bring to a college program a skilled two way player who will play hard every possession. Offensively, I’ll be able to both score and facilitate as needed, and defensively I’ll be able to harass the opposing guards. I’ll bring leadership and also be a great contributor off the court, as well as on it.”
