Recruiting Report: Cole Gendreau (2018)
Cole Gendreau is one of the top football and basketball players in North Dakota. He’s undecided on which sport he’ll pursue beyond high school but the Bismarck-St. Mary’s product is drawing college interest for both sports.
“I haven’t decided between football and basketball,” said Gendreau. “I’ve talked to U Mary and MSUM for football. For basketball I haven’t officially talked to people but I’ve been to Jamestown’s camp and was at a visit for U Mary.”
Gendreau spent the grassroots season playing with ND Phenom, one of the top teams in the Dakotas.
“It was really fun,” said Gendreau. “A lot of [guys on the team] I’ve been playing with since freshman year. It makes it a lot easier on me as a point guard. It’s easy for so many of them to score so I was able to just play my role, get assists and get everybody involved.”
Gendreau is one of the most explosive guards in the state and excels at breaking down the defense and getting to the lane. He’s a decent perimeter shooter but said that’s an area of his game he’s still working hard to improve at. He averaged better than 18 points, four assists and four rebounds per game a year ago. He’s also a top-notch dual-threat quarterback for the top-ranked Saints.
The 5-foot-11 quarterback/point guard is hoping for a big senior season in both sports.
“A couple teams from AAA moved down but I feel like we are one of the better teams in the state,” Gendreau said of the football team. “We did it last year and I feel like we’ve got a great chance to get there and do it again this year. And I think we’ll be better in basketball than we were last year too. I’m very excited about that season.”
