Recruiting Report: Caleb Kirschenmann (2018)
It’s Caleb Kirschenmann time at Dell Rapids High School this year in the backcourt. It’s his turn along with a strong group of senior teammates. PHD talked with Caleb today.
You’ve seen Jeffrey Schuch score inside, you’ve seen Mason Schmidt produce, and you’ve seen Carson Rentz knock down jumpers. There is young Logan Heim inside as well. Caleb will be one of the guys making sure they all have the ball.
Caleb built experience for this winter by playing with the Dakota Niners.
“My leadership and maturity I feel like grew this summer as I played point and grew into a leadership role with the team,” Caleb said to PHD. “All the good times with the team and traveling from place to place and meeting new people.”
In preparation for this huge senior season what has Caleb been working on?
“I’m primarily working on my ball handling and defense,” Kirschenmann. “I will have to guard taller and bigger players and I need to move my feet and use my quickness to keep them in front of me and the ball handling to get in the paint a little more.”
The experience with the Niners was valuable because it’s a new challenge.
“Playing kids from all over is a great part of AAU basketball. You get a feel for the different level of competition which makes you adjust your game depending on your opponent and their skill level.”
Caleb will surely have the stamina to play a lot for Dell Rapids. He’s a top runner in South Dakota.
“Yes some schools have talked to me about Track & Field, and Cross Country, and also Basketball as of right now not sure what I’m going to do.”
For Dell Rapids to reach their goals was does Caleb need to do?
“I need to keep growing as a leader on and off the court and to keep getting better,” Caleb said. “There is always room for improvement.”
