Recruiting Report: Ben Tompson (2018)
Bartlett 2018 point guard Ben Tompson broke out late in July for Kessel Heat on the grassroots circuit. With several players missing he had to play more meaningful minutes than he is used too and performed well. The Bartlett rising senior is a 6’1” guard that is a good ball handler. Gets where he needs to on the floor to get his shot off especially from mid-range and finishes solid around the hoop. Worth a look at the D3/NAIA levels.
How did it go with Kessel Heat in July?
“It has gone good. They like to get out and run which definitely fits my playing style. These guys know how to cut off lanes and get steals in. I like to get out of the break. I am trying to adjust to the new team. Especially the last few weeks in July.”
He spoke about the strengths of his game.
“Definitely transition and getting easy baskets. Creating easy baskets for everyone on the court. Our high school team and Kessel both thrive in transition.”
Tompson is a key piece for Bartlett.
“We are pretty much all seniors this upcoming season. Last year we were all juniors and a sophomore. We went 18-12 and lost to Larkin in the regional championship. Hopefully we can run into Larkin again in the playoffs.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“Some small schools like Augustana, St. Ambrose, Loras, Knox College, and Milwaukee School of Engineering. I really want to get out to visits at Augustana and St. Ambrose. Those are two schools that really interest me.”
He broke down the two schools he wants to visit.
Augustana
“I have heard they are a great D3 program and they get a lot of people out to the games.”
St. Ambrose
“I have heard it is a great campus. A little bit bigger for the D3/NAIA.”
