Recruiting Report 2018: Drew Jezioro
Drew Jezioro, 5’10”, PG, 2018. Oakdale Bears HS.Ijamsville, MD.
We saw Drew 3 times this summer at the MD Elite Summer League held in Rockville, MD at the Jewish Day School. He impressed us as a true PG who ran the fast break & half court motion offense very, very well for Oakdale HS. In past years Frederick County, MD has not received much notoriety for high school basketball. Last season Oakdale posted a 24-3 record with 3 losses by a combined 5 points and Tuscarora HS (21-4) defeated MD 4A State finalist Quince Orchard. Both teams have proven to be excellent with many under recruited players. By no means are we blaming any Coaches such as Head Coach Connolly, from Oakdale who we believe in one of best Coaches in Maryland. Last year we watched DMV standouts, Keleaf Tate (Cesar Chavez HS ) and Dom Fragala (Champe HS in Aldie, VA) who we awarded 1st & 2nd team All DMV-I495 fall off the recruiting map. This baffled us & many highly rated DMV Coaches who like us knew the character & ability of both players. The Washington Post even wrote articles on both players, and still there was very little buzz, until Niagara offered late. Both players accepted & are attending Niagara University where they are doing very well in summer school & workouts.
Currently we rate Drew as D3 & up college prospect, who clearly has the ability to play in college. We spoke with Drew recently who says,”My main focus is to run our fast break & half court offense, facilitating to get open looks for Collin Schlee, JP DeLorenzo, and Moosah Crawford on the wings and Noah Polke in the post. I am a very good ball-handler with both hands & I use my quickness to get by my defender.”This summer Drew got past some very talented guards off the dribble & fast break. He seemed to make all the correct reads & passes, with his very high understanding of what Coach Connolly wants from him.
Last season Drew averaged 7 assist per game, 6 points & 2 steals. We like Drew’s shot mechanics & he adds, “I can shoot out to the 3 point range & while I have the ability to shoot off the dribble, I prefer spot up 3s. I think my strengths are my pull up game & attacking the rim.”This year a 35 second shot clock has been implemented for Frederick County & Drew adds, ” We like to run & score when we have the best shot, no matter what time is left on the shot clock. Last year we averaged close to 70 points with team high of 97.”
On the defensive end, Drew adds, “My defense is one of my strengths. At Oakdale Coach Connolly wants his guards to apply full court on ball pressure. We are very well conditioned & do not tire out. I think we can be as good or better than last season s team.”
We will be covering Frederick County & Oakdale HS this year providing game reports & new Recruiting Reports for the players.
