Recruiting Report 2018: Collin Bannister
Collin Bannister, 6’4″, WG/WF, 2018. Magruder Colonels HS. Rockville, MD.
Grassroots Team: Maryland 3D.
Legendary Head Magruder Colonels HS Basketball Coach Dan Harwood has coached many great teams in his tenure at the Rockvlle, HS which began 26 years ago. He won Maryland State 4A Titles in 2000/01 & in 2011/12 & on 1/6/17 captured his 500th victory. Last years team finished 16-8 losing to State finalist Potomac HS. The Colonels return 6 key players from last year & Collin is expected start this season & play a major role for Magruder HS.
Magruder is known for their team play, excellent fundamentals & ball movement. Watching Magruder this summer in the MD Elite Summer League, this is exactly what we saw with Collin & Magruder. The Colonels are now in Maryland 3A status & in our opinion could be a threat to reach the MD 3A final 4 at the University of Maryland. Collin played very well this summer for Magruder in the MD Elite summer league scoring approximately 13 ppg. In Grassroots play he scored in the 13 point range & grabbed over 7 boards per game for MD 3D.
This summer Collin displayed great versatility & very solid fundamentals. Additionally, he is very athletic with nice hops, & adds, “One of my best assets is my basketball IQ & court vision. Getting a win is the most important stat for me. I can shoot very well with range beyond the HS 3 point line on & off the dribble. ” Collin is a very multi dimensional player who can guard & play 4 postilions in HS, but will translate to a WG in college. This summer Collin says, “I have improved my ball handling & finishing at the rim thru contact. However, I will still work at both.”
We do not see many major weaknesses in Collin’s game and he says, “I can score from all 3 levels & I am a triple threat. Coach Harwood has taught us excellent fundamentals, how to win, & decision making. I think I have a high basketball IQ & posses very good court vision. Coach Harwood stresses ball movement & we run a UCLA offense. Additionally, I think I have good intangibles & I will do whatever it takes to get a win.”
On the defensive end Collin appears to be a solid defender & says,” I think I play very good man to defense & I can play full court ball pressure. Coach Harwood preaches team defense and hedging. I am always working to improve my basketball skills on both sides of the ball & improve”
In the classroom Collin has very impressive 3.24 GPA with all honors. At this time he does not know what he wants to major in, but wants to play basketball in college. Collin says his role models are his parents, his Uncle Jason Bannister who was All Met player at Bullis HS, and Coach Harwood.
At this time we believe Collin is a D2 & up college prospect. We will be following Magruder HS this year & provide game reports & new Recruiting Reports.
