Prospect Watch: Tyson Palmquist (2018)
Five-foot-11 guard of Tyson Palmquist got a taste of varsity basketball last year and wants to be an even bigger contributor so he played with the Niners this spring.
Tyson has battled his way up through the Deuel program but last season he took the ultimate jump, to being a varsity piece of the starting rotation.
“As a basketball player I grew this past winter tremendously more than any other season,” Palmquist said. “It was my first year starting at Deuel and getting to play in prime time games.
“I grew with my teammates off the court with our long bus rides home from games and going to war each and every practice to make each other better and all of those things I will never forget.”
Tyson earned his way on the court because of the way he shot the basketball but his senior year it will be about more than sinking shots from distance.
“Obviously basketball as a skill set has so many areas to be improved on but for me going into my senior year I just want to become a multi threat player,” Tyson said.
“I have always been able to knock down a three when I wanted to but if I can take it to the rim better especially when they play tight to keep me from shooting those are some of the toughest players to guard.”
Varsity basketball wasn’t enough. Tyson wanted more. He wanted to play some of the best players in the state and in the Midwest. And he wanted to get himself prepared for his senior season.
This off-season Tyson improved himself by playing with the Dakota NIners.
“Playing against some of the toughest competition in the area will make anybody better and it definitely has for me,” Palmquist said.
“Its very physical play that’s on a new level from High School play that is fun to be apart of and pushes you to be a better player to compete against it.
“Now my focus is to make my final season with my team a great one and to make it great we expect to win and try and compete with the top tier teams and put our name out there.”
Palmquist wants to do more for his team, and he wants to win.
“Since it’s my senior year the goal is to win and to win now there is no more next year and we as a team think we can turn some heads this year and surprise some people,” Tyson said.
“We want to compete with everyone and with how the playoffs are and the sweet sixteen format you never know what can happen and we saw that last year with some other teams.”
