Prospect Watch: Max Henry (2018)
Max Henry of Bottineau has been playmaking for the Braves since he was a freshman and now he’s going all out to make his senior year memorable.
“I grew as a player this summer by putting more focus into my defensive effort and I learned towards the end of the summer to attack more offensively to create for myself and others,” Henry told PHD.
“I’m working on getting stronger on defense. That is a big one. And shooting off the dribble is as well. I’d also like to be more consistent from outside.”
Max played once again with the North Dakota Cougars who are team full of players from the same area that have become not just teammates but friends.
“My favorite memories from AAU all have to do with hanging out with my teammates. We have a great group of guys and we’re always messing around having a good time.”
Playing against the best teams in the Midwest has helped Henry in a lot of different ways.
“The speed of the game is much faster at the AAU level and a lot more physical so it taught me to get low and be strong on defense and it also helped me to get stronger with the ball and limit turnovers,” Max said. “It’s also harder to get a bucket by creating it one on one so it taught me how to create for others better too.”
Henry hasn’t thought about college basketball much as of yet but this is a guy that was near the state lead in assists when he was a freshman dishing out six plus assists a contest. Since then he’s become more of a scorer as well so numbers have looked great across the board.
“I’d love to play basketball if I got the opportunity,” Max said. “No I haven’t really thought about college a whole lot yet so it’s up in the air on where I end up going.”
The main goal for Henry going forward is a huge senior year for his team and he has some individual goals he would like to accomplish as well.
“To help my team get as far as possible this season is my main goal,” Max said. “We’ve all been wanting to get to state since we were little and this season is our last chance. I’d like to go out with a season that people will remember.
“Also in track I’d like to get in the top 3 at state for long jump. Physically I need to keep getting stronger so I’ll be working on that. I made the all-region team for basketball last year so this year I hope to make the all-state team. I also want to get to play in the Lions All-Star game, that’s always been a goal since I was little.”
