Prospect Spotlight: Wyatt Seibel (2018)
Halstead 2018 big man Wyatt Seibel has largely flown under the radar throughout his high school career, but has seen his stock rise in recent months after a strong offseason with Kansas MTXE.
At 6’9, 291-pounds Seibel is a big presence in the paint at both end of the floor. He has a strong sinside game and is also a strong post defender and rebounder.
A year ago, Seibel helped lead Halstead to a 12-11 record but says the squad has high expectations for the 2017-17 season.
“We didn’t go as far as I would like in my junior season, but I feel like I and my team did alright for having no seniors but this year we should make it very far,” he said. “I really went in to the summer trying to up my game a lot to make my high school team be able to go to state and I feel like I can definitely help my team get there.”
Seibel says he is looking forward to playing rival Hesston this season a team that handed Halstead a 44-32 loss last year.
“They’re our are rival and they got the best of us last year but this year will be a different story,” he said.
Seibel says his high school coach, Lonnie Lollar, has had the biggest impact on his game to date.
“Coach Lollar he has put so much into me to make something of my self not just on the court but off and still is,” he said.
A fan of Shaquille O’Neal, Seibel says he enjoys watching highlights of the former NBA star and tries to take various elements of his game and make them his own.
“I feel like he was the most dominant post player to ever play the game and I try to steal some of his moves,” Seibel said.
To date, Seibel has heard from a handful of NCAA Division II programs, but says he is still hoping to catch the eye of a Division I program.
