Prospect Spotlight: Eric Butler (2020)
Former Washington resident and Team Blackout 2020 standout Eric Butler no longer lives in the Evergreen State, but we thought we’d keep you privy on his whereabouts, regardless. .
The 6-foot-2 guard moved to Alabama after his eighth-grade year, when his father retired from the military (they lived there before moving to Washington), and is getting ready to enter his sophomore season with Smiths Station.
He played on the adidas Gauntlet this past spring and summer with Florida-based CP25 for his 15U season, and that was after a marvelous freshman campaign with the Panthers in Alabama.
We recently caught up with the former Washington standout, who mentioned defense as his top priority.
“Not a lot of players would talk about defense, but I feel like my game revolves around defense. But I’m also a good scorer when I want to be,” said Butler.
“I’m working on my court-vision and still improving my jump-shot.”
With CP25, he played both guard positions, “I think I played well, my role was to play the two and the one,” said Butler.
But he plays primarily point guard for his high school team, and averaged 12 points per game last season as a freshman with the varsity.
This year, he’ll be a primary scorer and ball-handler, and will have to lead more too.
“I want to be more of a leader for the team, all of our seniors left last season,” he said. “I want to be more talkative to the guys on my team. And also just make it to state.”
As for his recruitment, there’s plenty of time for that to happen, but he does have a couple of D1 schools aware of him.
“I’ve got some interest from Auburn and Samford, that’s it,” said Butler. “They just talked to my coaches.”
