Prospect Spotlight: Ben Seiden (2019)
St. Paul’s 6-foot-7 forward Ben Seiden is coming off the heels of a 16U offseason where he not only got better, but gained confidence.
The versatile stretch-four played his grassroots ball this summer with NOLA 23, and says that as each game went by, his play gradually improved.
“I got my confidence up this summer, and once I had one good game, I just kept having good game after good game, and getting more consistent,” said Seiden, who described his playing style to PHLA.
“Being as tall as I am, I feel like I have great vision for a big man. My passing ability is probably a lot better than most big-men. And I can play defense against anybody, I can guard point guards through centers.”
He’ll bring that hybrid style of big-man to the Wolves this winter, and is hoping to have a significant role with the team as a junior.
“I played some last year, but not as much as I wished I would have,” said Seiden. “And I don’t know exactly what my role might be this season, I’m just waiting for the season to start to see what that might be like.”
With still two years left for his recruitment to material, Seiden has plenty of time. But he’s being proactive right now, and hopes to get some looks this winter.
“I get a bunch of D2 emails, camp invites and stuff like that. And I got a guy making a video for me, and we’re going to send that off to colleges,” said Seiden.
In the meantime, he’ll be working hard this fall to prepare himself for what could be a breakout season.
“Every other day a friend and I get up at 5:30 and work with a personal trainer,” said Seiden. “And then after school every day, we’ll have conditioning and I’ll stay after and get shots up.”
