Michael Bass, 6’6″ PF, 2020.
Walt Whitman HS Vikings HS.
Bethesda, MD.
“Rising sophomore Michael Bass had a great summer for the Vikes and will add depth and athleticism to the front court. Bass scored in double figures in each of the last 3 games of summer league. He will push for a role in the starting 5, and if not, will be a significant contributor off the bench.” says , Walt Whitman Head Coach Christopher Lun. We believe Micheal has the skill-set & determination to play college basketball & we will be monitoring throughout his career at Whitman. Micheal has very good upside & due his athleticism he can take his game up a notch or more.
We are very impressed with Michael’s focus & high basketball IQ. He is always in motion & understands where he needs to be. We talked wih Micheal about his offensive skills & he says.” I have been working on my shot & I have honed my shot mechanics this summer. I can shoot spot up 3s & I am working on shooting off the dribble this summer. I can score thru contact, score from all 3 levels & I have good court vision & passing skills.”
On his defensive abilities, Michael says,” I have a very good wingspan which allows to me play off the ball some. I have very good gauge on how much space I can allow to make recovery. I am a solid re-bounder using positioning, but I am working t0 get better.”
Since the end of Whitman’s JV season in late March, Michael has been training hard with his well renown Trainer Brad Pinchback. Micheal says, Coach Pinchback has helped me tremendously with all aspects of basketball. He helped me with my shot mechanics, & I have gotten bigger & stronger. We are working on my shooting of the dribble, pull ups & post moves on both sides of the court. Defensively we spend a lot time with rebounding & overall fundamentals.”
Michael is already a very good athlete who can jump well & possesses good quickness. However, Micheal adds, ” I am on a great strength & conditioning program with Coach Pinchack. We work with weights, flexibility, explosion, plyos & anything that will make me a better player.”
In the classroom Michael posted a 3.8 GPA spring semester & an overall GPA of 3.5 an history is one of his favorite subjects. He considers his mom Ursala & father (Tim) who is 6’5″ & played HS in McLean, VA his primary role models. Michael says Coach Lun & Coach Brad Pinchaback are role models on & off the court. He has known Coach Lun since his middle school years & says,”I know Coach Lun from Thomas Pyle Middle School where he was my math teacher in 6th grade. Coach Lun is a great mentor to me who always stays positive & pushes his players to be the best they can be. He has our whole teams back, and looks out for everyone. He is overall a great person & Coach.
Walt Whitman will be in the thick of the Montgomery County 4A race & the Vikings will contend for a MD Regional 4A Title. We will be following the Vikings this year with game reports, Prospect Spotlights & Recruiting Reports for the players. Several Vikings will enter our rankings in the pre season.
