Prep Spotlight: Wells Hoag (Greenville)
Wells Hoag 6’2 combo guard at Greenville HS averaged 15 ppg and 4.3 rebounds last season for the Red Raiders.
How was your season at Greenville HS last year?
It was good overall. It didn’t end the way we wanted it to with a loss in the first round to South Pointe. As a team we felt like we could have gone further, had we stayed healthy and executed more down the stretch. Individually I started off the season very well, but as we got through our schedule my knees kept giving me problems which prohibited me and the team from reaching our goals.
How AAU was this year and what teams did you play for during the season?
Hoag played for the Spartanburg Bucks and GSP Unified this past AAU season. I went into the season unknown to colleges, but I’ve had multiple coaches call me after the summer has ended.
What is your expectation for this season at Greenville HS ?
Help my team win the Region 1-4A title and win the state championship in Columbia.
What awards did you receive this past season?
I made All-County, Team offensives MVP, All-tournament at the Dan Joyner Poinsettia Classic and All-Tournament at the Impact Sport Tournament.
What skills can help you at the next level?
To take my game to the next level I need to be able to create for others and read the floor better. My shooting is obviously going to help me at the next level but to be able to create for others and lock up on defense for 94 feet will really make a difference in my overall game.
What skills do you need to work on for the next level?
Being able to defend smarter and for longer period of time and being able to make my teammates better either with leadership or passing.
What colleges have offered you?
No schools have offered yet according to Hoag.
