Intro: Artese Stapleton (2019)
Kenwood 2019 point guard Artese Stapleton is a slick handling point guard out of Kenwood that really elevated his stock in July! The point guard has an advanced feel for the game which is particularly impressive considering he doesn’t have much varsity experience with Kenwood having three high level seniors last year in the backcourt. Stapleton understands how get others involved by putting the ball in position for them to score. He has the ability to get to the rim with his smooth explosion and speed in the open floor. Beast on ball defender that gets several steals a game. Should be monitored by mid-major and low-major schools.
Stapleton spoke about his July with Y&R.
“It has been going pretty good. I have been working hard and getting better. We started to come together as time passed and it makes us look better.”
What areas did he see the most growth?
“Decision making. Definitely when to shoot and when to pass. My leadership and being more vocal has got a lot better.”
He chatted with us about the biggest assets in his game.
“My biggest strength is starting the defense and the offense. I can talk and am real vocal.”
How did it go with Kenwood in June?
“It was an up and down month. We are a young team. We will have to find who we are.”
With the graduation of three senior point guards it will be Stapleton’s show to run!
“I have a big role and a chip on my shoulder. I have a lot to prove this season. I have to step up.”
