Blake Pruitt Prospect Update (2019)
Earlier this week PrepHoops.com/Tennessee dug into the transfer of Damion Baugh. Another guard from the Nashville area elected to transfer, but Blake Pruitt remained in state.
Class of 2019 shooter Blake Pruitt played for Independence High School last winter. Instead of following up the IHS’ 25-win season with an attempt to supplant the graduation of Grayson Murphy (Belmont) Pruitt chose to transfer to The Baylor School (Chattanooga,TN).
“A lot of it had to do with my Chattanooga Elite team,” said Blake Pruitt. “I just felt like I would have a better chance to play against better competition. I wanted a chance to play against BA, Ensworth, MBA and all those guys. I would love to play them and it is time for a new team in Division II to win besides BA.”
Prep schools have never been more popular for young college basketball aspirants.
K.K. Curry (St. Thomas More) and T.J. Moss (Findlay Prep) both recently transferred to prep schools.
Blake Pruitt moved in to The Baylor School a little over a week ago.
“I love it,” said Pruitt. “It is a campus. We are a day school and boarding school. This is a complete new experience.”
Pruitt lives on campus and has much of his time devoted to basketball, lifting, and training.
“They manage the time really good,” said Pruitt. “We do have some free time, but after school we go to whatever our sport is and then we have study hours from 8-10 (PM). That really gives us a chance to have less free time and focus on our work.”
The Baylor School is lead by Patrick Urey (Mercer offer) and Boris Ristanovic.
“I feel like, if you want to be a serious athlete it is the best option you can find,” said Pruitt. “I feel like you are surrounded by other people that want to do good like you.”
Recruitment
The 6-foot-1 dead-eye shooter attended elite camp with Lee University.
“I got invited to that,” said Pruitt. “It went well. I got contacted by a new coach, Coach (Brody) Stone.”
Coach Stone played for Coach Bubba Smith at Sewanee for all four years and was named first team all-conference and third team all-region his senior season while setting a school record for most rebounds in a season.
“Now that the head coach hired him at Lee he is an assistant coach,” said Pruitt.
In his opinion, Pruitt was the best shooter at the Lee University camp. “I played a lot of good defense (too).”
Several other colleges have reached out and maintain contact with the 170-pound guard.
“I am being recruited by Columbia, the Ivy League,” offered Pruitt. “BYU. Rhodes is really recruiting me hard. Campbell. Wofford. That is it.”
Campbell’s coaching staff invited Blake Pruitt to their elite camp, but he had to meet with The Baylor School staff that day.
“I think I am going to visit later, once basketball season is over,” said Pruitt of Campbell.
Junior Blake Pruitt begins his Baylor School season in a couple months. The transition to live-in student has already begun.
