The Basketball Interview: Ryan Corner
Ryan Corner (2020, 6-9, F/C, Allendale HS) has had a very strong summer, continuing to improve his skill set and refine his game. Here is our interview with Ryan:
What are the three biggest strengths of your game?
My shot blocking, rebounding and passing. I like that I can throw players off worrying about having to change their shots.
What aspect of your game would you like to improve?
Probably my ball handling & scoring down low. If I improve on these, it will help me be a more complete player and ultimately help my team.
What is your best moment in high school basketball so far?
Starting on JV as a freshman and getting pulled up to play with the varsity for the playoffs.
What high school team do you look forward to playing against?
Grand Rapids Catholic Central and Spring Lake. Both teams are in our conference and have really good big men and I look forward to seeing where I stand against them.
Who is the best player that you have played against?
For high school, I played Marcus Bingham from GRCC in team camp this summer & in AAU both Matt Nicholson & William Dunn. All three push me hard to be a better player and I always look forward to playing the best.
Which gym in Michigan was your favorite to play in and why?
For high school, I really liked playing at Coopersville’s gym. They are our main rival and the crowds really get into the games. For AAU, Calvin College is always a great gym to play in.
Who is your favorite NBA player and why?
De’Aaron Fox. He always works hard to make himself a better player, always comes off as a classy person. He just does things the right way.
Which form of social media do you prefer?
Twitter and Instagram. I use both to follow all of my favorite players from high school all the way through the pros.
What are your long term goals, both on and off the court?
My ultimate goal for basketball would be to play for the University of Kentucky. I know it will take a lot of practice & hard work to get to whatever my next level of basketball will be. For school, I’d like to finish up high school with a 3.7 GPA and get both an athletic and academic scholarship.
Who is your greatest motivation to achieve your goals?
My dad has to be the biggest motivator. He started coaching me in 3rd grade and has pushed me to be a better player and I’m happy that he did that.
Prephoops Evaluation:
Ryan Corner is a fast rising post player in Michigan. In a guard heavy 2020 class, his game stands out. If he continues his rapid improvement, sky is the limit, as his post game should be highly coveted.
