St. Johns concluded a superb & dominating DeMatha BSN Summer League playoff run with a 68-55 Championship victory over Georgetown Prep. Both teams are candidates in our early preseason evaluations to make a run for a #1 to be ranking in the Washington, DC, DMV final rankings for 2017/18.
GAME MVP:
Casey Morsell, 6’3″, CG, 2019.
Casey continued his torrid play scoring a game high 22 points and played great on both sides of the ball. He has shown he can play PG & WG and we just do not see any flaws to his game. Casey has perfected his jump shot and his range is beyond the 3 point arc. In our opinion he should be ranked in the nations top 100 players for 2019. In June Casey received offers from Temple, South Florida, Rhode Island (2016 SJC grad Jeff Dowtin had a great freshmen year for the Rams) and VCU. Casey wore #14 tonight in the game highlights video.
BEST BIG:
Richard Njoku, 6’8″, PF/C, 2018.
Richard was a dominating force in the paint, grabbing rebounds, & either blocking or altering shots. Additionally, he totaled 10 points and battled Georgetown Preps physical front line for the entire game. Last night in the semifinals we awarded Richard Defensive Player of the Game. He is very quick off his feet with an excellent second jump. He is an excellent prospect who holds 12 offers to date.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME:
Richard Njoku, 6’8″, PF/C, 2018.
Richard was very active in the low post collecting 13 rebounds and displayed his defensive range going up to 15 feet out blocking or altering shots. He plays with high energy & is a leader,
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME:
Casey Morsell, 6’3″, CG, 2019.
Last week Casey goes coast to coast for a dunk.
Casey scored from the left, the right, the baseline, at the rim, 3 point range, mid range and off the dibble. When he ran the point, Casey was excellent, displaying an excellent handle & the ability to facilitate. As we we mentioned last night, Casey is an excellent defender and will be a national stock riser. He is a high major D! player.
BEST HANDLE:
Jared Bynum, 5’9′ PG, 2018.
Jared is a true PG and one of the most underrated players in the Mid Atlantic Region. He has great vision, instincts and a very high basketball IQ. Jared reads his the floor very well and he knows when to facilitate, attack the rim, or pull up. Jared has excellent lateral movement & a great ball handling skills. He can run the fast break and half court sets to perfection. Tonight Jared scored 11 points , dished out 5 assists, playing against a very aggressive suffocating SJC defense. Overall he had a very solid floor game.
BEST SNIPER:
Devon Dunn, 6’0″, G, 2019.
Devon has been on fire for SJC for the entire playoffs and tonight he drilled four 3 pointers in a five minute span. His shot mechanics are excellent with an ultra quick release with nice elevation. Devon is one of the best long range shooters in the Washington, DC DMV, very possibly in the top 2 with Matthew Becht from Bishop O’Connell. Additionally, he can pass, create in the mid range, facilitate and he has a very high basketball IQ. He will play a Microwave role providing instant offense for SJC this season.
BEST MID RANGE:
Ike Neweke, 6’7″, F, 2018.
Ike patrols the baselines and he is a physical force in the paint. Thru flash cuts teammates find him on the baseline or free throw areas for mid-range scores. He gets excellent elevation on his jumper and and his range continues to improve. Ike has a great physique, is very physical on the glass and scores on put backs. His stock has been rising this spring & summer. Tonight Ike scored 14 points & grabbed 10 boards.
BEST ALL AROUND PLAYER:
Mezie Offurm, 6’6″, WG, 2018.
Mezie has become a complete player thru very hard work. He has developed a very good handle and he took the ball to the rim off the dribble, scored from the wing and passed very well. Tonight Mezie totaled 11 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals. We firmly believe Mezie is poised for an excellent season for The Little Hoyas and his national ranking of 193 will rise. PLAYS OF THE GAME:
Tre Wood, 6’1″, PG, 2018 hits Carlos Dunn (6’0″ WG, 2019), with a kick out pass on the wing for a 3 pointer at the 1:40 mark in the video highlights at the end of the article.
Richard Njoku, 6’8″, PF/C, 2018. Richard snares a rebound at the 3:25 mark, misses his FG put back attempt, then he follows his miss & coverts a FG.
BEST FLOOR GENERAL:
Tre Wood, 6’1″, PG, 2018.
Tre played an excellent floor game finding open teammates and dribble penetrated locating open Cadets for kick-outs or feeds in the post. Tre wore #3 in the white and blue jersey for SJC tonight. He scored 3 points, but registered 10 assist, collected 5 boards and had a steal. Tre will run the show for the SJC Cadets this year whose team goals will be winning The WCAC regular season, The WCAC playoffs, The Washington, DC State Tournament, and the Alhambra tourney in western Maryland. Prep Hoops will attend all these events providing coverage.
OTHER KEY PLAYERS :
Jalin Abbott, 6’5″, G/F, 2019.
Tonight Jalin scored 7 points on 3 of 5 FGs, grabbed 4 rebounds and had an assist. Yesterday he was awarded Best All-Around Player in the semis vs Bishop O’Connell. Jalin will be a key player for the SJC Cadets this season, either starting or coming off the bench.
Devin Savage, 6’3″, WG, 2021.
Devin had a huge game scoring 20 points (7-9 FGs) in the Cadets semifinal win over O’Connell yesterday. He is an outstanding prospect. We believe Devin will be an impact in the near future.
Ishmael Leggett , 6’2″, G, 2020.

Tonight Ish scored 9 points (3/7 FG) , collected 3 rebounds, had 2 assists & 1 steal. In the semifinals we awarded Ishmael Up & Coming Player for 2020. He has had an excellent spring & summer & is ranked #14 in our Maryland/ DC rankings for 2020.
Zachary Spooner, 6’3.5″, CG, 2018.
Zachary is a great glue player with excellent all around skills who can play the 1 or 2. We will have a Recruiting Report for Zachary this week.
Kamdyn Curfmanm 6’0″, G, 2019.
Curfman’s role should significantly increase with Prep this seasonKaymdyn will be a very key player off the bench for Georgetown Prep this season. He is a sharpshooter & very good athlete who plays very hard. He knocked down a 3 pointer tonight.
