Southwest All-American Camp Top Performers
The Southwest All-American Camp featured a number of the state’s top prospects. The top performers from this particular event, either day one or day two, were playing at an extremely high. Below are the top prospects from the event based on the day.
Day 1 Top Performers:
Kyree Walker Kyree Walker 6'5" | SG Hillcrest Prep | 2020 State #37 Nation AZ 6’6 SG Hillcrest 2020 (Arizona State):
Walker demonstrated great strength, length, and skill set. His ability to attack off of the dribble and shoot it from deep mixed with his freakish athleticism for his age make him extremely special. He did not participate on day two but he did enough on day one for all of the scouts to have plenty to write about. He should be prepared to have a huge year for Hillcrest.
Jovan Blacksher 5’11 PG Shadow Mountain 2018:
Blacksher recently received an offer from up and coming GCU. This weekend, he continued to show why he is a NCAA Division I prospect. His change of pace and change of direction on his moves make him tough to stay in front of. In addition, he is a prolific passer who does a great job of finding the bigs with pocket passes on the rolls. Defensively, he continued to get hands in the dribbling and passing lanes.
Malik Salahuddin 5’11 PG Mountain Pointe 2018:
Salahuddin was one of the toughest on ball defenders at the camp. He pressures the basketball extremely well and constantly was turning it side to side. His athleticism is extremely high and he has improved his muscle mass significantly. He did not shoot the basketball from the perimeter a lot. However, he was frequently able to get into the paint and create shots for himself.
Jared Martin 6’5 SG Saguaro 2018:
Martin demonstrated a strong transition to a combo guard role. He has improved his passing skills and has a solid handle. He still looked more comfortable in the 2 spot with others creating for him or with him creating from the wings. In addition, he demonstrated an improved ability to take a defender on the block and create shots for himself.
Koby Jones 6’4 SG Centennial 2018:
Jones has improved his ability to shoot it from deep and continues to impress with is athleticism. He runs the floor extremely well and crashes the glass hard. Jones’ willingness to compete on every possession has demonstrated a lot of improvement from last season and has made him an even tougher prospect to play against. He still has an extremely high ceiling that has not been fully tapped.
Day 2 Top Performers:
Grant Greabell 6’2 SG Estrella Foothills 2018:
I absolutely love watching this young man play. He plays extremely hard and smart. He shoots the ball at a high level as well. It was on display in the Top 40 game as I would label him as the Co-MVP with Ajang Aguek after he hit 5 threes in a row and made a number of game changing plays.
Rashad Smith 6’4 PG Hamilton 2018:
Rashad Smith is a combo guard who is very comfortable at the point guard spot. In addition to having a couple of impressive dunks during the Top 40 game, Smith showed his ability to take defenders off of the dribble and create at will. It is also worth noting that he is a capable shooter and a skilled on ball and help side defender.
Ajang Aguek 6’7 PF Ironwood 2018:
Aguek had 8 points in the Top 40 game, but would have had more if he would have shot it better from the line. With that said, Aguek had 5 blocks, 2 of which were on dunk attempts, and had 13 rebounds. He scored well on the block, moving without the basketball and off of the dribble. He is a versatile prospect who was the talk of the town on day 2 due to his motor and competitive mentality to go with his length.
Josh Ursery 5’11 PG Liberty 2019:
Ursery was without a doubt the MVP of the Underclassmen game. Ursery was solid all weekend and demonstrated that he is capable of being one of the best point guards in the entire state. Athletically, he is second to none in his class. Add to it, he can shoot the basketball off of the dribble and stop on a dime and pull. He is a tough guard to stay in front of and has a really high ceiling.
Zeke Quinlan 6’7 SF Life Christian 2018:
Quinlan is a versatile prospect who does a number of things extremely well. He is built well; thus he is able to take his defender on the block. He demonstrates a lot of patience on the block and has solid footwork. On the perimeter, he does a good job of not over dribbling and being efficient with his movement. When he decides to attack, he makes a move, puts the shoulder down and gets down hill in a hurry.
