Recruiting Spotlight: David Exline
Mesquite High School improved their win total drastically from 2016 to 2017. There were a number of factors that played into that success with the transfer of Jaden Lee and the incoming freshman Xavier Dusell Xavier Dusell 6'4" | SG AZ Compass Prep | 2020 State #299 Nation AZ helping greatly. Although those two played a huge role in the success of the team, it was a returner who made the biggest impact.
David Exline maintained the same scoring total as he had is sophomore year, at 16.7. However, he increased his rebounding total and did a great job of transiting from what was largely a one man show to sharing it with two other highly talented prospects. Exline’s consistency and ability to be essentially a walking double-double was vital to the growth of the team.

College Interest
Exline, a 6’5 SF who plays for Team Harden and is 2018 prospect, heads into his senior season without any offers but has received interest from a couple of different schools. According to Exline, he has received interest from “Air Force, Grand Canyon, Lake Forest, Benedictine, Hartnell, and SDSU”.
Although he does not have any offers, he has opened a number of doors for himself from next level suitors. He has taken care of business in the classroom. Exline carries a 4.1 GPA into his senior season. Despite not having a scholarship offer at this point, a 6’5 wing who has averaged nearly a double-double two years in a row is certainly worth a look.
When asked what he feels he brings to a college program, he responded that he is a “hard worker, a great teammate”. In addition, he mentioned that he knows his role and a capable scorer. He has demonstrated this with Team Harden and Mesquite. He is capable of scoring but knows how to do a lot of the other little things that assist a team in being successful.
As far as what he is looking for in a program, he mentioned that he would prefer to attend a school in the west coast. Moreover, he would like a school that would allow him to major in something related to the medical field or business. Lastly, he wants a school that has a good basketball program.
High School
Exline is a great leader who will be relied upon greatly his senior year. He has demonstrated that he is capable of being a consistent force that helps his team be successful and get through adversity. He will need to do that again now that the team has a new coach. His work ethic, commitment to success, and desire to win should aid greatly in the shift.
His goals for the upcoming season are quite simple: Win a state championship and be a leader. He stated that one of the most important things to him is for his team to “look up to me as a leader and captain”. This hard worker will undoubtedly earn their respect with his toughness and work ethic. In addition, he will make an impact due to his focus on being a leader.
Projection
At this point, Exline projects to be a mid to high NCAA Division II or NAIA Division I player. He brings toughness, length, and skill to the wing. He attacks the rim well off of the dribble. Moreover, he has worked tirelessly to make his 3 point shot more consistent. Moreover, his grades make him quite attractive at that level.
