Recruiting Report: Zach Bremer (2018)
AAU basketball can be a lot of things. It’s fostered a great deal of improvement and from that, confidence for Zach Bremer.
A 6-foot-5 forward from Lake City, Bremer spent his junior season as the fifth scoring option and utility role player for the eventual state tournament qualifying Tigers. He’s shown he’s got a lot more in the tank this spring and summer playing with Southeast Minnesota Lightning.
Playing on a team that was in flux at times with players in and out of the lineup for various reasons, Bremer was a consistent presence and took advantage of the extra opportunities in a big way, consistently scoring in double figures and rebounding at a high rate.
“I think [the season] went pretty well,” Bremer said. “I wish we could’ve done a little better than we did as a team but I thought things went well for the most part. We came together as a team pretty well.”
It’s hard not to like Bremer’s game, as he’s productive and efficient. He makes the most of opportunities and does great work off the ball as either a spot up shooter, screener or cutter. He’s got a nose for the ball and his all-out effort helps create opportunities for himself and his teammates. He’s a versatile defender who can defend from the 3-point line to the rim.
He showed he can stuff the stat sheet with regularity with SE MN Lightning but the uptick in scoring didn’t come at a cost of what will likely be his calling card as that of a Swiss-army knife type guy.
Augsburg and St. Olaf are the two schools Bremer said he’s been talking to with the most. He’s visited both schools at this point as well.
The AAU season is about getting better and getting exposure to play at the next level. Bremer certainly made the most of the season.
“I think I played better than I usually do,” said Bremer. “I developed as a driver and shooter a lot and I got comfortable doing that a lot more than I ever had previously. It really did boost my confidence, being able to shoot and drive and kick, it made me feel like I can do more this upcoming season and help the team a lot.”
