Recruiting Report: Terrence Smith (2018)
It could be just a matter of time before Crescent City 6-foot-2 point guard Terrence Smith nabs his first Division I offer.
During a recent phone interview with the rising senior, he mentioned New Orleans, Southern, Murray State, UMASS-Lowell and UAB as teams that are currently showing interest.
And he mentioned three which are talking with him the most.
“It’s just interest right now, I’ve been talking to Murray State, UMASS-Lowell and Murray State a lot though,” said Smith.
“They’re just text messages, telling me they’re going to come check me out this summer and during my senior season.”
A slashing guard, Smith defined his skill-set in his own words, and briefly reflected on his junior season with the Pioneers.
“My strength is my mid-range game, and I like to get everybody involved. I like to attack the basket as well,” said Smith, who averaged 14.7 points, 5 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game as a junior.
“I thought I played good. I was the leader and set the tone for everybody else on the team.”
This spring and summer, Smith has been playing with New Orleans Basketball Club 17U, and says he’s enjoyed learning from the other guys on the team.
“It’s been a pretty good summer so far. My role on the team is to get out in transition and get points,” he said. “It’s different, because for my high school team I’m like the leader, but I’m learning from the older guys on this team.”
This weekend, Smith and his 17U teammates will be in Las Vegas for the final grassroots event of the year.
“I’m hoping to get some more college college interest,” said Smith, who is averaging 13 points, 4 assist and 4 rebounds per game this summer.
“And I’m going to go hard this last week, and hopefully learn more about the game as I head into my senior year.”
