Noah Kannegiesser may not be the biggest or fastest guy on the court. But he’s almost always one of the best scorers on the court.
Kannegiesser spent the spring and summer playing with the Comets and coach Steve Little where he had an opportunity to go against top-notch competition on a weekly basis.
“I wish we would’ve done a little better but it was a good time still,” said Kannegiesser. “We played a lot of good teams and playing with and against so many good players was a great experience.”
Kannegiesser, a combo guard from Hancock, wanted to go out and get a challenge of playing against high-level competition. That meant stepping outside his comfort zone a little bit. It looks like it’s paid off in a big way.
“I knew none of these guys before I joined and now I’ve gotten to know them and made a lot of friends,” said Kannegiesser. “It’s fun to do. Out here in Hancock you don’t get to travel and play with a lot of kids like that very often. Teams you are playing against are from bigger schools and you see a lot of top players. Bigger and better athletes. I learned a lot from that and how to make adjustments.”
Kannegiesser plays point guard for Hancock and played mostly off the ball as a shooting guard for Comets Little. He might not be a pure point guard in the sense that facilitating is his natural instinct, but he’s a dynamic scorer and has shown an ability to make plays for teammates at a high level. His ability to use screens and cut off the ball was strong during the year especially for a player so used to playing with the ball as often as he does for his high school team.
“Because I’m not very big people think I’m more of a point but I play like a two,” said Kannegiesser. “I can do both. That’s one thing I think I improved at a lot this summer was learning to play off the ball. With my high school team I’m always on the ball. I like doing both and I think being able to do both makes me a better player.”
Kannegiesser’s drawn a lot of interest thanks to strong play this summer.
“I’ve heard from around 10 DIIIs, a couple of DIIs and a few NAIAs,” said Kannegiesser. “Northwestern, Augsburg, Hamline, St. Thomas; I visited Hamline and St. Johns. I’d like to take a handful more still too. I’m hoping to have a decision around like Christmas time. That’d be my goal ideally but I know a lot can change.”
