Recruiting Report: Mitchell Plombon (2018)
This past March when St. Cloud Cathedral made their return trip to the state tournament the excitement from junior Mitch Plombon came in the form of massive exuberant leaps.
Plombon used that leaping ability, his agility, and his quickness as a frontcourt to give Cathedral 19.1 points and 7.8 rebounds a game on their way to a 27-6 record. Mitch told NHR that maturity played a big part in his play for the state tournament team.
“I think I just matured way more, the game really slowed down and I started having better awareness both offensively and defensively,” Plombon said.
“Definitely the biggest take away would be the section final against Melrose, after beating a team that was undefeated all season it was an unreal feeling that I will never forget.”
Plombon has a good frame for the college level but he wants to be even bigger plus add to his range.
“I want to improve my outside shooting to be more consistent and hopefully put on about 15-20 of pounds,” said Plombon.
Mitchell was part of the “Iron Six” this past weekend for the Minnesota Comets who made a final four run in the NY2LA Basketball League despite missing four of their players to injury and football camp.
Playing with the Comets means Mitchell is playing an NY2LA League schedule three weekends of the year, playing in the SPTS league three weekends of the year, and in the two St. Cloud weekends among other events. It’s a solid schedule.
“The challenges that I’ve faced is that everyone is either the same size as me or bigger so I have to discover new ways to score,” Mitchell said. “I have also learned to move better on offense and understand what is happening around me when I am on the court.”
Plombon is a solid D2 level recruit hearing from several of those programs plus he could go to the top MIAC programs or even play football.
“I’ve heard from South Dakota School of Mines, Bemidji State, Winona State, St. Thomas, St. John’s, and St. Thomas for football as well. I am planning on visiting Winona State soon.”
With only two weekends left in AAU play with the Comets (here in the Twin Cities and then in Las Vegas at the end of the month) what is Plombon’s goal?
“To get better, have fun, and always give it my all!”
