Recruiting Report: Michael Schaefer (2018)
Today Minnesota State-Mankato joined the list of programs offering St. Cloud Cathedral’s Michael Schaefer. And there will be more you can be certain of that.
Michael’s resume speaks for itself. Averaged a 20/10 area double-double playing combo forward for his high school team. A high school team that played in the final four of the Class AA state tournament. We’ve seen Michael be a big shooter at 6-foot-6/6-foot-7 with range to the arc, we’ve seen him score around the rim, and we’ve seen him hustle to make the worker plays.
He’s also put a big emphasis on becoming a better defender.
“I’ve really grown on the defense end,” Michael said. “I’m comfortable guarding anyone on the perimeter or on the post. I’m proud of the way my team battles every single game.”
Powerhouse Minnesota finished second this past weekend at the Adidas Prospect Series and has one more big event to go with his long time club team.
“We are playing in the Bigfoot Classic starting Thursday,” Michael said. “On the court I’m planning on competing and do whatever it takes to help my team win. Off the court I’m going to spend some time with my teammates as this is our final AAU tournament together.”
Schaefer continues to build D2 offers but has also been contacted by D1 schools after last weekend.
“Within the last two days I’ve heard from Denver, Nebraska-Omaha, West Point (Army), Dartmouth as well at least eight NSIC schools,” Michael said. “And Davidson has reached out to my coaches. I haven’t set up any visits yet, just preparing for this last week of AAU.”
Soon AAU will be over and the down time of August begins. There will be no down time for Michael though.
“Next month I’m going to continue hitting the weight room hard as well as basketball workouts with coach Brett and coach Jon.”
