Recruiting Report: Kaden Koski (2018)
Bigs that blend perimeter skills with solid interior play are more popular than pizza joints after bar close. Kaden Koski fits the mold of that kind of big man.
The 6-foot-7 Byron forward has opened eyes this spring and summer playing with Nice Hoops, where he’s had an opportunity to shine showing off his expanding overall game.
“We’ve had a competitive season,” said Koski. “I feel like AAU has helped me develop my skills a lot because we are always playing against great competition.”
With a lot of upper-echelon players in Southern Minnesota playing for Rise or with metro-based clubs, Nice Hoops operates on a different competitive tier. That’s worked for Koski though as he’s taken on a big role and been forced to produce.
“I want to win but with AAU, you are playing against great competition and even if you don’t always win you can get a lot better,” Koski said. “I feel like I’ve gotten better.”
A prototypical power forward prospect to the next level, Koski combines feathery touch to the 3-point line with the length and toughness to defend at the rim. He’s got good ball skills and can make plays for himself or his teammates and he runs the floor well.
He possesses a lot of skills and he flashes a lot of upside – which makes him an intriguing prospect.
“I feel like I’ve improved a lot on the defensive end,” Koski said. “But that’s still an area I want to get better at. I still want to get bigger and stronger while keeping my mobility too.”
Koski’s drawn a lot of Division III interest to this point as well as some interest from Division II and Junior College schools.
“I’ve heard a lot from St. Mary’s, St. Johns, St. Thomas – a lot of MIAC schools,” said Koski. “NDSCS too and some DIIs though I’m hoping to draw some more interest.”
