Recruiting report: Jonathan Jackson (2020)
Basketball fans who know of former North Carolina standout and Sacramento King rookie Justin Jackson may soon get to be knowing his younger brother — Jonathan Jackson.
The younger Jackson isn’t quite as big — yet — but is still growing and has emerged as a player on high major program’s radars this offseason.
A 6’4 2020 wing, Jackson is a standout perimeter shooter who does some of his best work coming off screens and lets his teammates help set him up. He has followed the same homeschool path Justin Jackson took to UNC and as a results has largely gone unnoticed in high school basketball circles playing for KC Metro. But this offseason, Jackson has competed with one of the nation’s best AAU programs and has drawn a spotlight along the way,
Jackson said playing up an age level with MoKan Elite 16U has helped his game grow and has given him valuable experience going forward.
“MoKan is one of the top programs in the country so there are a lot of different things that you can get from it — exposure, working on your game and getting better,” he said. “It helps get you better and prepares you for the high school season.”
Jackson said his parents have been the biggest influence on his basketball career to date.
“They just encourage me during the down times and keep pushing me during the good times,” Jackson said.
Jackson said he enjoys watching Klay Thompson and of course his older brother play.
“My brother has a finesse game just like me and Klay Thompspn can shoot it and I try to make my game like theirs,” he said.
Jackson has an offer from Liberty University and has heard from Duke, Kansas and North Carolina. He has taken a visit to Liberty and UNC head coach Roy Williams came to watch him play in April.
