Recruiting Report: Jalen Perkins (2018)
Walker’s 6-foot-6 forward Jalen Perkins is about to embark on his final summer of grassroots ball, and hopes that some of his current interest can materialize into something more solid.
Perkins says some area JuCos have been reaching out, and it seems that may be the route he takes after high school.
“Northwestern State still notices me and a couple of junior colleges have reached out to me,” said Perkins.
“I haven’t thought about it much yet, but I probably will (consider going to a JuCo).”
Still though, Perkins is hoping to nab some scholarship offers this summer, and mentioned in a recent phone interview with PHLA what it is he’s been working to improve most of late.
“I improved on my ball-handling and being able to bring the ball up the court,” he said. “And I’ve been able to finish around the rim easier by dunking. And my defensive game has really improved.”
Perkins enjoyed great success as a junior with the Wildcats, averaging 17 points and 8 rebounds per game.
“I had a big role, and I was the go-to guy,” he said. “I helped the team out with defense, mostly. And being able to rebound and finish around the rim.”
After playing with New Orleans Basketball Club in the spring, Perkins now has the opportunity to play with Team Millsap this summer.
He’s eager for the chance to play with his new team, and hopefully earn a scholarship offer this July.
“My goal is to be able to help my team,” said Perkins. “And another one is to finish school and go to college, get some more recruitment and offers, and get to a D1 school.”
