Recruiting Report: Ian Burke
Ian Burke, the 6-foot 5-inch shooting guard, averaged 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists for his junior season at Brophy High School.
“[I play] Point guard, I think my biggest skill is that I can make the guys around me better. I pride myself on passing, and I’m a good shooter,” Burke said, but also added that with his size he does try and work in a little post game for the times that he has a shorter guard defending him. He then said “I’m a big point guard who likes passing…I love to watch Lonzo Ball play. I try my best to shape my game around what he does best.”
Like Lonzo, Burke considers himself to be a leader of his Brophy team, and just as Lonzo tends to be a more low-key, less aggressive leader Burke himself says “I try to lead vocally, but I think real leaders lead by example.” When considering his senior season Burke says that he expects nothing less than a state championship from him and his Brophy teammates. For now, though, he is in the AAU season. He adds his shooting and passing abilities to the already high powered and highly competitive Power House Hoops squad.
Burke has yet to receive any offers from schools, but has had Ivy League schools in Dartmouth and Cornell, as well as St. Mary’s show interest in him. “I’m trying to find a great fit, I need to be with a coach I can trust and trusts me. I also would love to go to a great academic school.”
The amount of dedication to his work whether it be in the classroom or on the court should transfer well for Burke. He finished off his interview by saying “I just really love basketball.”
