Recruiting Report: Colten Northop (2019)
Class of 2019 and Richland High School standout 6’4 guard Colten Northop has been turning heads this summer. With a long wingspan and a deadly outside shot. Programs across the country will look to utilize this young mans services.
Colten Northop is one of the most underrated guards in the state of Washington. He is long, athletic and has the ability to handle the ball against small guards. In some of his more recent tournament play he has shown that he can also knock down tough shots in tough situations. With an increasing skill-set and a great coaching staff at his disposal he will continue to build on his abilities.
A true floor general. Has great size at the point guard position and can slide over to the combo guard slot as well as the 3. Very unselfish, makes the smart plays and is knocking down open jumpers at a high rate. Displayed above average court vision, defensive awareness and sneaky athleticism on several plays. Sleeper prospect that could be bound for a breakout junior season.
I was able to interview this young man and get an idea on how he feels his game has improved and what recruitment is looking like for him.
Please describe your game?
“My game is a lot about playing overall good basketball. I play where it’s shoot first, then pass then dribble. And I have a great feeling for the game. I think my shooting, decision making and effort stands out. This off season I’ll be working on my athleticism and making my skills better.”
What AAU team are you playing on? Has schools started to recruit you yet?
“I have been playing on Eastern Washington Elite, and it’s been going great for the team and me individually. I’ve had several D1 and D2 universities contact me so far.”
