Recruiting Report: Cody Mains (2019)
W.T. Woodson forward Cody Mains probably has about as high of a ceiling as any big in Virginia’s 2019 class. Not only does he have significant experience at the varsity level for a state championship team, but he also posses tremendous athleticism for his size.
“When I play, I like to try to use my size and strength to my advantage. I try to Muscle my way to the basket, and then to try to use moves to get around people,” said the 6’8 power forward. “I think of my self more as a defensive player. I play in help a lot. Protecting the basket. Keeping the other team out of the middle.”
Mains was not asked to score much as a sophomore, but he did a great job defensively for Head Coach Doug Craig. Mains defended older, more experienced players, and provided outstanding energy to the front court. While on the grassroots circuit with District Basketball Club, Mains has picked up some new things to add to his game.
“I have improved a lot on my handle. I am more comfortable with attacking the basket, and putting it down in traffic,” said Mains. “I would like to develop my shot more to keep my man from playing off, so it is easier to beat him off the dribble to the basket.”

Mains finished off the year with a 3.3 GPA, but says he is hoping to do better next year. He’s been contacted by, UMBC, Mount St. Mary’s, Holy Cross, Radford, and College of Charleston. Expect more schools to join the list soon, and the offers to begin coming in. What can Mains bring to a college program?
“I bring 100% effort on the court. I am a good team player, and am always looking to fill the role that the team needs. Doing what the team needs to win.”
