Recruiting Report 2020: Anthony Thomas
Anthony Thomas, 6’6.5″ WG, 2020. Woodstock, VA.
Grassroots Team: Team St8ment:
Already a national recruit, Anthony is holding offers from Kansas State, Virginia Tech, Rhode Island, Rutgers and other schools showing major interest. This summer Anthony was not sure which school he would attend this fall and he recently announced he will attend Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, VA. He joins 6’7″ 2019 F Mekhi Long, another highly regarded DMV player at MMA this season.
Anthony has had an excellent spring for Team St8ment 16 & under which is ranked #21 in that nation by Prep Hoops. Anthony & Team St8ment leave town Wednesday (July 12) for the Adidas Gauntlet Final| finals in Spartanburg, SC from July 12 thru 15.
Currently Anthony projects as a WG in college with tremendous upside. He is very long & smooth with the ability to get to the rim. He works out daily with his Grassroots Team St8ment Coach Jordan Brooks. While Anthony has shown the ability to drain perimeter shots, he adds,”I am working very hard on my long range shooting on and off the dribble as well as my ball-handling. We go thru an array of drills and I am making very good progress with Coach Brooks. We have Teamst8ment workouts which are very intense and we have some excellent players to go against.”
We are very impressed by Anthony’s lateral movement and his ability to shift and or change directions very quickly and in compact motions. Additionally, he plays very hard and with an edge which we like. Upside can be overrated, but we can see Anthony taking his game up a notch as his body fills out, he gains strength and continues his hard work. He adds,” We are being cautious with my strength and conditioning in regard to gaining weight. I only want lean muscle mass and not to gain a lot body weight. I am in a great position with Massunutten & Team St8ment where I will get great Coaching, competition, skill development, education and guidance. My role models are my mother (Andrea) and Coach Brooks who are helping me in not just basketball, but maturing as a young man.” Anthony says he has great interest in fashion design and currently sees this field as a potential major in college.
If Anthony stays on course he has the potential to become an elite college recruit in 2020. We will follow him this season at MMA in Woodstock, VA and have several articles.
Another player is slated to join Anthony & Mekhi Long at MMA which we will confirm this week. Additionally we will have a DMV Prep School & Massanutten Military Academy update article in the next week. It should be noted that MMA has separate Post Grad and a varsity basketball teams and Antony and Mekhi will play on the varsity until 2020.
The remaining schedule for TeamSt8ment is as follows:
July 12-15: Adidas Gauntlet Final| Spartanburg, SC
July 18-21: Hoop Group Elite Camp / Reading, PA.
July 22-23: Hoop Group Summer Jam Fest | Manheim, PA.
July 26-30: Adidas Summer Championships | Las Vegas, NV.
After the Team St8ment Grassroots Circuit concludes in late July, Anthony will begin his preparation to attend Massanutten Military Academy in late August.
