Head Coach: Steve Watson
Grassroots Team: MOCO Heat/Team Vito:
Most people call Maurice, Steph or Stephan so we will address this true PG this way. Stephan impressed us each time we saw him play in the Maryland Elite Summer League. He is very tough & crafty PG who has played on the Clarksburg varsity since the midway point in his sophomore year and will be the Coyotes starting PG once gain this season. We saw Stephan bring high energy,an obvious high basketball IQ and a real passion for basketball to the basketball table.
We talked with Stephan about his game, “I consider myself a true & well rounded PG. My fist priority is to run our offense and facilitate. I can run the half court or run the fast break & get to the rim or kick out.I always run thru my progressions and scan my options when I run the half court or fast break.” Stephan makes great reads very quickly and we are impressed by his decision making & ability to move to next play very quickly. He adds, “My range is past the HS 3 point line and I shoot the 3 ball better off the dribble.” Stephan exhibited very high level ball handling skills and adds, ” I can use either hand on the dribble and attack from right or left.”
On the defensive side Stephan proved to be a very tough ball hawk and came up with steals each game we saw him play. He adds” I pride myself in my hard nosed on ball defense and I can pick up my man full court. I bring energy on both sides of the ball, but my upmost priority is getting a Win.”
This spring & summer Stephan works on his game 6-7 days a week & says,” Everyday I try improve my overall basketball skills & I do all types of drills. Additionally, I am working hard on my strength & conditioning to get stronger for the next level. This summer I gained great experience playing in the Maryland Elite summer League and for MOCO heat on the Grassroots circuit where we finished @ 25-5 & won the Spooky Nook event. I have improved since the end of Clarksburg season & I will continue to work hard on my game.”
This past season Stephan averaged 10 ppg and 5 assists for the Coyotes. For the rest of the summer Stephan says. I will run pickups with my current & past teammates at Clarksburg & we have a great family atmosphere.” We believe Clarksburg has the talent & chemistry to be a top tier team in Montgomery Count 4 A this season. We will be covering their games and provide reports during the the 2017/18 season & look forward to watching this very underrated & dangerous Coyote team.
In the classroom Stephan carries 2.8 GPA but hes is determined to get it over a 3.0. He is getting college interest from St. Marys College of Maryland, Montclair State, Queens of Charleston, & Belmont Abbey. We believe Stephan has the skills & midnset to land a college basketball scholarship this coming year.
