Recruiting Report 2018: Bobby Miller Update
Bobby Miller,6’3″,W/G, 2018. Paint Branch HS Panthers Burtonsville, MD.
Bobby gained major notice for his excellent play in the DeMatha summer League for his Paint Branch HS team which concluded on July 3. Additionally, he played excellent basketball at the University of Maryland Team Camp in June. Bobby just received his first offer from St. Thomas Aquinas College and we expect more to follow.
While Bobby is explosive and athletic, he is becoming a very complete player, and adds, “I am a good defender who can guard multiple positions. I like attack the rim off the dribble in half court sets. Also, I can shoot the spot up 3.” In transition Bobby excels and we saw him finish with alley oop dunks and off the dribble throw downs.
Some have labeled Bobby as a tweener, but we tend to disagree if Bobby continues his progress on his ball handling skills. He adds. This summer I am working very hard on my overall ball handling every day. I want to play WG in college & I am working on perfecting my mid range. When I go the rim I am practicing at improving my decision making regarding my options in the mid range, a pull up, a drive to rim or a dish. Coach Bohlen has a great program for us this summer 5 days a week. We have basketball drills from 10am until noon ,then after some rest we have weight training from 1pm until 3:30 pm. I am seeing the results pay off.”
Additionally, while Bobby is solid spot up 3 shooter he adds, “We have shooting drills 5 days a week at PBHS and I do them on my own. One of my main goals is to improve my 3 off the dribble.” Tomorrow, July 11 Bobby will attend the Hoop Group Elite event at Albright College in Pennsylvania until Friday July 14. There will be many college coaches in attendance and Bobby will get some great experience.
After the Hoop Group Bobby will come back home and continue his 5 days a workouts at Paint Branch HS to prepare him and his teammates for the 2017/18 . Last season PBHS was one game away from going to the Maryland 4A semifinals at the University of Maryland, but lost to eventual 4A State Champion Perry Hall HS from the northern Baltimore area. Bobby has played at Paint Branch since his freshmen year and on the varsity as a sophomore.
Despite losing Steve Etienne and Jarell Body to graduation, Bobby says” If we stay together and play like we can we have a great shot of going to the States at the University of Maryland.” We rank Paint Branch, Springbrook and Richard Montgomery as top tier teams in MOCO 4A with Whitman, BCC and Sherwood as other possible teams to contend. We will be watching more Montgomery County teams in the Maryland Elite Summer league at the Jewish Day School in Rockville, MD which runs thru July 28 and will help us further evaluate Montgomery County teams.
