Prospect Spotlight: Tanner King (2018)
Although his college future as an athlete may be in another sport, Eisenhower’s Tanner King has put together a strong summer running with the Wichita Padres.
A strong, 6’2 2018 forward, King is a defensive minded player who gets on the boards and lets his offensive game come to him. He says he takes pride in being a team-first player and doing what needs to be done to get a win.
This past season King helped Eisenhower to a 23-2 record and a third-place finish in Kansas 5A in Topeka. Playing in a talented line-up that faetured Matt Pile and Dylan Vincent, King found room to average 8.0 points and was second on the team in rebounding at 6.0 per game.
This summer, King and the Padres have competed against good competition and have overcome key injuries to put together a strong run.
“Our Padres team has had a pretty good summer and we have played very good competition,” he said. “We have fought through injury with our point guard Nate Kelly hurting his ankle and our team getting roughed up during tournaments.”
Kign says he is looking forward to playing with the Eisenhower senior class and against Andover Central this upcoming season.
“I looked forward to playing with my seniors one last time because I have grown up with them,” he said. “I also look forward to playing with Jeffery Wake because he has gotten a lot better this offseason. The team I look forward to playing is Andover Central because of the talent they have and their shooting ability.”
Also a 6’2, 185-pound wide receiver, King says he has drawn interest from a few Ivy League schools as well as several Division II and Division III football programs.
