Prospect Spotlight: Jonathan Allen (2020)
An up-and-comer in Louisiana’s 2020 class, Oak Grove 5-foot-8 point guard Jonathan Allen recently spent some time explaining his skill set and summer plans to PHLA.
A sharpshooting lead guard, Allen could soon be one of the state’s better known young players, and mentioned what it is that could soon make him one of 2020’s best.
“I like shooting the ball more than anything, I feel like that’s my strongest point. And I just like winning, I’m a competitor,” said Allen.
“And I think I need to work on driving to the lane more, and my basketball IQ.”
Allen has been playing with the Tigers’ varsity since eighth-grade, and last season as a freshman, he was the first guy off the bench.
“I came off the bench as the sixth-man last year, and whatever they needed me to do I would just go in there and do,” said Allen, who has been spending his summer with Dallas-based Nike Pro Skills 15U.
“My coach knows a few people out there, so I think he got in touch with them. Then I went over and tried out and they liked me, and it just went from there.”
Allen will be in the gym frequently over the next few months working on his game. Basketball is his only sport, and he mentioned what his emphasis will be during his fall workouts.
“I’m going to be working on a little bit of everything every single day,” said Allen. “I want to be a better teammate and play smarter, and move better without the ball.”
