Prospect Spotlight: Griffin Effenberger (2019)
Class of 2019 6’4 point guard Griffin Effenberger has been making a name for himself on the circuit. Already playing for a top tier program like Washington Supreme. Griffin looks to turn heads and land some interest during the Live period.
Griffin is one of the most underrated guards in the state of Washington. He is long, athletic and has the ability to handle the ball against small guards. In some of his more recent tournament play he has shown that he can also knock down tough shots in tough situations. With an increasing skill-set and a great coaching staff at his disposal he will continue to build on his abilities.
I got a chance to interview the young guard and here is what he said about he feels has afforded him some success.
“Part of what has helped my success this far is that I can handle the ball under pressure, can see the floor and have vision to create. As a longer point guard, can rebound pretty well. While growing up, I have had the chance to work out with coaches and trainers like Clint Parks, John Fazio, Dan Dickau, Eric Avery, and Chris Hyppa that have made sure I have strong fundamentals which have really, really helped.”
Griffin knows that the off-season is a really important time and he described what his plans are for this off-season.
“This off season, I’m working specifically on having a consistent jump shot. I want to strengthen my shooting range outside the perimeter and inside mid range. I also am working on agility. To do this, I am on a shooting gun several times a week, taking hot yoga and just starting a jumping program. In August, I’ll attend CIC basketball camp with Justin Downer, that will be another opportunity for me to gauge my progress because there will be some great talent there to match up with.”
“My AAU team is Washington Supreme under Coach Barsh. We have just finished the UAA Championships in Atlanta, Georgia. We finished with a .500 record going 2-2, and are now preparing for Las Vegas.”
When I asked Griffin how the recruitment process has been treating him he this to say.
“In the recruiting process, I have not received any offers, but I am communicating regularly with Coaches from California, Oregon, and Washington. My focus is to grind, and work every day to improve as a person, player and teammate. ”
Griffin is definitely a high-major recruit.
