Prospect Spotlight: Cameron Tyson (2018)
Class of 2018 Bothell High guard Cameron Tyson is a extremely quick and heady point guard.
The 6 foot 2 160-pounder called his junior year a good one. He averaged 21.5 points, 9.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game for the Cougars during his junior season. But fell short from making it to the high school tournament.
“I thought I played OK. My team obviously didn’t make it to state, so I feel like that falls on my shoulder,” he said. “I thought I had a pretty good season though, I was the leading scorer in the conference.”
In terms of what Cameron learned this past season after moving to the point guard position. This is what he had to say.
“I learned more about the point guard position and what it takes to separate myself from everyone else by working on my game and watching a lot of film and college basketball,” Cameron told Prep Hoops Washington. “Last year was a year of experience and improving my game for next season.
“Next season my role is to create for my teammates as well as scoring on the offensive side. On defense, my role is to put pressure on the guards to make them work and get steals and rebounds.”
The 6 foot 2 combo-guard will again play with Northwest Panthers this offseason, and with July in full effect he knows that he needs to be at the top of his game to receive some offers.
“I’m mostly focused on building my speed, athleticism, strength and every aspect of my game on the court this summer,” Cameron said.
“I have a lot of interest from mid-major and high-major D1s; Oregon State, Washington State, Cal, Idaho, Seattle, Weber State and schools like that,” he said. “I would probably say at this point Oregon State, Idaho and Weber State are after me the most,” said Tyson, who is hoping that first offer comes in soon.
No official offers have come yet for the rising senior, but with a aggressive Northwest panther AAU schedule he will be placed in front of some high major programs and offer should start to roll in for the rising senior by the end of the summer.
