Grassroots Team: 6th Man Warriors
We talk about under the radar players in the Maryland & DC vicinity, but Jordan is under, under the radar for several reasons. Jordan attends From the Heart Christian School which is a small private school consisting of 231 students. The school is well renown for its high academic standards & providing its students excellent religious, mentoring and guidance.
On the court Jordan has a tremendous upside and has only played organized basketball since 9th grade.Jordan averaged 19.5 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds & 3 steals for FTHSC last season. He is a very young for the class of 2018, but we are convinced Jordan will be able to play college basketball at the D2 level. We recently chatted with Jordan who says,” I got a late start to basketball, and I have so much room to grow. I love to play and I am always working on my game. I can score from the left and right side, and I am a very good shooter with 3 point range and a good mid range game. However, this summer I am putting in a lot of work in both areas with my Trainer, Coach Clinton Crouch. We work on all phases of basketball and while I can handle the ball well with both hands, we still put in a lot dribbling skill work.”
Jordan really likes the transition game, but his Dad (Ralph) adds, Jordan needs more strength and some more muscle, which we work on so he can finish better thru contact. We are not rushing his strength & conditioning in order to prevent injury, but Jordan will fill out. Despite his lean frame he is strong for his weight which is almost 150.” Jordan is a very smooth ball player and he is an excellent wingspan, which he uses for deflections and steals.
This spring & summer Jordan is playing for the 6th Man Warriors Grassroots 16U Team, Coached by former Maryland Terrapin Byron Mouton who was a starter on the Terps 2002/03 National Championship Team. Jordan is a starter and has fared very well against some very good competition. The 6th Man Warriors is a well known Grassroots Team in the Washington, DC DMV and we will be writing an article about them this coming week.
In the classroom Jordan carries a 4.1 GPA, which means he gets straight As and he takes upper level courses which have bumped up his GPA. In College he plans to major in Criminal Justice. Jordan is extremely close to his parents Ralph and Keia Dykes who he credits with being being his role models and who provide tremendous support. Mr. Dykes attends almost every one of Jordan’s events and is very proud of Jordan on and off the court.
We will be monitoring Jordan and From the Heart Christian School this season and we will attend some games and provide reports. Jordan is a player to watch and we certainly will be.
