Recruiting Report: Khyree Armstead (2018)
Class of 2018 6’3 point guard Khyree Armstead had a stellar showing at the Oregon Premier Showcase this past weekend and has now started to get some D1 and D2 interest.
The Mountlake Terrace High School standout showed an uncanny ability to score the ball at a high level this past weekend. Really hard to defend with his combination of speed, quickness, leaping ability and body control. Loves to attack the rim and does a solid job finding people on kick outs. Has the potential to develop long term into a great scoring guard with passing ability at the next level.
A true floor general. Has great size at the point guard position and can slide over to the combo guard slot as well as the 3. Very unselfish, makes the smart plays and is knocking down open jumpers at a high rate. Displayed above average court vision, defensive awareness and sneaky athleticism on several plays. Sleeper prospect that could be bound for a breakout junior season.
“I’m definitely describe myself as a slasher type of player, but my shot is improving every day,” Armstead said.
Defensively, Armstead’s wingspan and constant effort causes opposing offenses much trouble. His feet are always moving and his arms almost always up ready for the steal or a block.
“My ability to get to the basket and my defense are definitely some positives in my game,” Armstead said. “I need to expand my game to the three-point line and be able to hit that shot more consistently.”
Armstead hasn’t heard too much from colleges yet, but he wants to play Division one basketball. He thinks playing in WESCO will help him achieve that goal.
“Playing in WESCO is good for me. Every game is something where the team can’t go in lackadaisical,” Armstead said. “We have to always execute our offense and work harder than the opponents every night.”
With his performance this past weekend at the Oregon Premier Showcase, Khyree has no picked up some interest from some D1 and D2 schools around the pacific northwest. As the live period comes to a close he will most definitely turn those interest into offers.
