Next Level Invitational: 2020 All-Tournament Teams
PrepHoopsIllinois was in Mequon, Wisconsin all week for the NY2LA Next Level Invitational. It is time for us to unveil our first and second Illinois All-Tournament 2020 Teams. This is based off the play that we personally saw throughout the week!
First Team
MVP: SG Ramean Hinton (All-In Athletics)
Our MVP of the Next Level Invitational for the 2020 class was a prospect that wasn’t even on our radar at the beginning of the week. He might end up being a top 20 prospect after it! Great size, strength, and athleticism combination for this 2020 two guard from public league power Curie. Hinton uses his strength to attack the rim with authority. He was relentless taking it to the cup and finished well. When he does miss he uses a nice second jump to get put backs. Best playing downhill and in transition. Flashes shooting ability though and is a good free throw shooter. Snatches rebounds. D1 ability.
F Tyrelle Hunt (All-In Athletics)
Hunt is also from Curie. This 2020 combo forward is a physically developed prospect that uses his motor and strength to make an impact on the game. Hunt is tough rebounding and gets on the glass for second chance opportunities. Showed flashes of emerging skill that we had not seen before.
SF Isaiah Rivera (Quad City Elite)
Rivera was the top 2020 prospect from event out of Illinois. The Geneseo 6’4” wing can score effectively at all three levels. He has the strength and handles to get in the lane where he finishes very well at the rim. Got to the rack at an extremely high rate where he converted or got fouled. Also is an effective shooter from mid-range and stretches it to three on occasion. Plus passer that has vision and feel for getting others involved. Mid-major player already with high-major potential.
C Devon House (Quad City Elite)
House is a perfect last name for this 6’6” center. He is a wide bodied post that retains mobility. The big man has a feel for scoring with his back to the basket. Good footwork and a soft touch around the rim. Outstanding area rebounder that gobbles up rebounds within his area. At times can step out and hit a jumper as he even hit a three when we evaluated him. Top 20 player in 2020.
SF Nick Savage (Illinois Irish)
The 2020 wing can really shoot it from the perimeter. Clean release and was excellent when we saw him connecting on threes off the catch. Savage has the potential to grow into a plus plus shooter from deep. He is still rounding out the others areas of his game as he is raw attacking and still growing into his body. Has a nose for the ball and is a solid rebounder from the wing position.
Second Team
SG Matthew Ambrose (Kessel Heat)
Ambrose is the son of Stevenson coach Pat Ambrose. The rising sophomore should make an impression for the Patriots next season with his shooting from deep. He can really let it fly off the catch. Solid athlete as he is more than just a shooter.
F Justin Cross (Made Men)
Cross is a rangy forward from OPRF that at 6’4” with a long and rangy frame has some upside. He is still a bit raw, but his second jump and projectability make him very intriguing down the line!
SG Dante Maddox (All-In Athletics)
Maddox missed part of the event with AIA, but he showed off his ability to shoot the rock in their loss to Lockdown. The Bloom wing can really stroke it from the perimeter and has room to expand his offensive game.
SG Daniel Gilbreath (Chicago Lockdown)
Gilbreath is a tough wing that finishes well on the interior. The 6’3” small forward from Plainfield East finishes great in the paint and gets to the foul line. Good rebounder.
PG Drew Wollenschlager (Illinois Irish Select)
This Normal West 6’1” point guard lets it fly from deep. He is a plus threat shooting the ball from the perimeter. Had 20 points for the Irish Select team against Quad City Elite.
